Website Wednesday: BassBlaster Newsletter

It’s not really a website, it’s a newsletter, but since signing up for the BassBlaster Newsletter I have found myself looking forward to finding it in my inbox each day.

Brought to you by the bass-crazy Jay Kumar, BassBlaster brings you the coolest stories and picture from around the world of bass fishing. You’ll find all sorts of neat information that you probably would not hear about otherwise.

Check out the archives to see what you’ve been missing, then sign up and get your own copy delivered to your inbox!

A Quick Laugh Courtesy Of Anderson Cooper

Sure, it has nothing to do with fishing or the outdoors, but everyone needs a good laugh now and then…

Thank you Anderson Cooper, this brightened my day :)

Beat The Heat – World Santa Congress

While watching the news tonight I heard a little snippet about the World Santa Congress. Any mention of Santa during this extreme heat wave is enough to get my attention!

Turns out the World Santa Claus Congress is held every summer in the Bakken amusement park in Denmark. What a great thing to celebrate in the middle of the summer – and by throwing sacks of presents and firing canons, no less!

Watch the video…the Christmas cheer sure helped to cool me down for a bit. I feel under-dressed in my shorts and t-shirt after watching this.

Website Wednesday – OwlJones.com

This week’s featured website is OwlJones.com.

I think most of my readers are very familiar with Owl Jones, but for those of you who are not, you really need to click on the link above and visit the site that is looking for total domination of the fly fishing world!

I first discovered Owl Jones thanks the Outdoor Blogger Network. I clicked on a link and ended up reading a blog post that made me laugh enough for Darrell to think something was wrong with me.

If you’re looking for unique, informative, and downright entertaining posts, OwlJones.com is the place to go.  The latest post, The Tenakara Scam was a great account of the Tenkara system. No idea what Tenkara is? I didn’t have a clue until I read this post.

Do you want to win something? I know I’m always on the lookout for free stuff. OwlJones.com is giving away some neat stuff right now and all you have to do is ‘like’ their Facebook page.  It doesn’t get much easier than that.

My favorite feature right now is Owl Jones Live, the weekly radio show. I don’t seem to be awake when the show comes on Thursdays at 11pm but I’ve caught the podcasts of the first two shows and really enjoyed them. The third installment is tomorrow night and Owl would love suggestions for topics. Don’t miss it!

Even if you’re not into fly fishing you find something interesting at OwlJones.com. Check it out!

Back Online! …and Grossed Out

After a very long and busy week that culminated in moving into our new house this weekend, I am very glad to finally rejoin the online community.

Being too tired to turn on my laptop kept me away from Twitter, Facebook, and the awesome outdoor writers I enjoy following. Many nights last week I would stare at my laptop, think about all of the great stuff I was missing, and fall asleep before I could do anything.

With the move over, and at least half of the boxes unpacked, I finally found the energy to turn on my computer tonight and start catching up. Turns out I had missed some great fishing reports from Bass Pundit and Jody’s Fishing, a great story about a fishing trip from Brookfield Angler, and several great posts from the always entertaining Owl Jones.

When my eyes got tired from reading I drifted over to YouTube and happened to find this video. I couldn’t help it, it grossed me out. Enjoy :)

Website Wednesday: Abnormal Outdoors

If you enjoy quirky, abnormal, utterly strange and often humorous stories about the outdoors you need to check out this week’s featured website, Abnormal Outdoors.

Have you seen this funny hunting accident video? Make sure to read this bear sign before heading into the outdoors. Or maybe you would like these deer figurines.

This is the site I stop at when I need a chuckle or an interesting story to mull over. It brightens up a long day at work.

If you have an abnormal outdoors story you would like to share on the site, submit it and you could be entered to win a $10 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card.

Abnormal Outdoors is brought to you by Ben G. of Ben G. Outdoors, another fantastic outdoors blog. Take a moment to visit both sites and put a little more outdoors into your day.

Cheers!

Not Your Typical Walmart Shopping Trip…

When I go to Walmart my shopping trips tend to be uneventful. Pick up some household items, maybe some food, and always stop in the fishing aisle. Some shoppers in Richmond Hill, Ontario had a far more interesting shopping trip courtesy of a tractor.

Fishing…For Something Other Than Fish

Last night I was wasting time doing research on YouTube and ended up watching videos about fishing…but none of them actually involved fish.

This first video started with an ice fishing trip…and ended with fishing for a Hummer.

Waterslides, Slingshots and More

There are all sorts of ways to enjoy the outdoors…some mainstream and others not so much. Check out these videos:

Whether or not you you think this video is real it’s still pretty neat to watch.

This looks like a great way to see the scenery.

I know it’s a longer of a video but it’s well worth it to watch the whole thing, the last few minutes are the best.

Everyone in these videos seems to have had a good time in the outdoors!
